I’ve Been Everywhere, Man…

ready to roll?

Summer Round-Up
This past July and August represent for me the most restful summer I’ve had in a long time. Lots of beach time, lots of people in and out of our house, lots of bbq’s and of course, this.

As a church community, theStory is going to spend the next 8 months or […]

genuine organic community

as previously mentioned, this past spring i planted my first ever garden: zucchini, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, onions and assorted herbs. nothing fancy, but entertaining nonetheless.

*it’s helped formulate a relationship between frank (my 72 year old neighbour) and i. i tell him […]

the new economy: an introduction

the notion that as the church we’ve entered into a new age where paradigms are shifting and where ideals once loved are ruthlessly challenged is old hat. masked behind their books and blogs, the pundits have flogged this one to death, and personally, i’ve grown weary of the endless deconstruction without, what nt wright calls, […]

Sheep for Wheat

If theStory had a church bulletin that listed the weekly events in the life of the church, it would look something like this:
Prayer Meeting (Occurrence: Monthly)
Formal Gathering (Occurrence: Sundays @ 11:11am)
Poker (Occurrence: Thursdays @ 9:00pm)
Settlers of Catan (Occurrence: Sunday afternoons, & randomly throughout the week)
Shutter Bugs Photography Group (Occurrence: Monthly)
The early stages of our tale […]

0 out of 5 doctors recommend church planting

i’m beginning to believe that God tricked me into doing this.
take this past sunday for instance:
*nearly an hour after our rental space was to be opened for us, still no one had shown up. our man was out of town and forgot to hand the responsibilities over to someone else. after some quick thinking […]

connect the dots

lots on the go in my head, and in one way or another it’s all connected…
office hi jinks
commanding the attention of the male patrons, the slender blond makes her entrance. laid bare are her shoulders and perhaps an indication of her self esteem. she’s made her point, we’ve chomped at the lure. meanwhile behind the […]

Dear theStory,

pernell from the FRWY offers generous words in his Open Letter to theStory. here’s what he said:
This past weekend I visited theStory [a new church plant of The Free Methodist Church in Canada] in Sarnia, Ontario with my family. The point of our visit was that Joe Manafo [he, along with Nathan Colquhoun and Darryl […]

Pull up a Chair

The elderly gentleman in the candy red motorized wheel chair maneuvers his electronic vehicle perfectly, easing up to the table where his six friends await. Greeted by hugs, pats on the shoulder, squeezes to the lats and a stale joke - they’re glad he’s arrived. He talks with his hands to better explain his point. […]
