Hello?

Still there? Here’s what’s been up as of late:

theStory
theStory had its first gathering outside of my livingroom this past Sunday. As posted earlier on this blog, we were going to be housed in Central United’s chapel, but unfortunately(?) that fell through at the last minute. However, this opened the door for us to be at the Annex drop in center which turned out to be a perfect fit. Couches, high bar tables and stools, pool and fooseball…it’s like we were in a bigger living room/rec room and that served us very well. A big thanks to Ralph Jarvis and the Annex for their generosity and trust.

For me, the gathering went off without a hitch. It was simple, we enjoyed again our weekly potluck, and the venue offered us the space and resources to further discover and express who we are and where we’re headed.

I love this church, and as scary as this ride is sometimes, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Gum
My friend Royce from Calgary was in town this weekend. It was great hanging and catching up on each other’s lives. During his short stay, he introduced Ethan to chewing gum. Mistake? So as I walked ethan to school yesterday he gets this shifty look in his eyes and quietly whispers to me: “Daddy - do you want to go and chew some gum?” It’s as if he was asking if we could go out for a smoke or as if was his dope dealer.

Books
I finished up 2 books by the same author last week, “Invisible Lines of Connection - Sacred Stories of the Ordinary” and “Jewish Spirituality - An Introduction for Christians” by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner. Both reads, especially Invisible Lines’ would be a superb follow up to my thoughts shared on creativity at the Cultivate Learning Party. Kusher’s stories and insights are easily accessible and are helpful in formulating an awareness of God in everyday life. Pick them up if you can.

New Short Film
Our new and fully original short is complete. “Justice: Hope for the Hopeless” will be up at theStory.ca and thinkerlabs.ca in the next day or so. Let me know what you think, and if you ‘get it’.

Here’s the storyboard, though it does however vary from the final product. Original idea had us filming people writing reminders on their hands…but this didn’t convey well onto film for us. The storyboard also included the signing of the word ‘justice’ and the end of the film. After all was said and done, this idea didn’t help the film along so we axed it.

Lunch
Yesterday I had lunch with Nathan, Glen Peterson (my newest friend who pastors Lighthouse Community Church) and David Fitch, who pastors Life on the Vine near Chicago and is the author of The Great Giveaway, a book (hi jeremy) that I found helpful in processing some of my thinking in regards to our church plant. I found David to be down to earth and genuinely concerned for the healthy expression of local church. And as a side note, his mouth and cheekbone structure is exactly that of Jack Nicholson’s in original Batman film - kinda cool.

Anybody out There?
Paging Steve Burke, Steve Burke. If you still read this blog, shoot me an email because I’ve misplaced your address.

Fall
The Fall season in Ontario is my favourite. The colours, the crisp air, dancing leaves…inspired and regenerated is the way it all makes me feel.

Talk to you later…
