Conversations With…
Today we kicked off a new series and new short film at theStory.
To watch the film, go here.
The concept for the film grew out of these ideas:
*We’re following the book of John in sequence and the next chapters up for discussion all include conversations that Jesus has (Nicodemus, John the B, Woman at the Well)
*When we read these exchanges we begin to learn things about God, His Kingdom, and if we read it long enough, we learn things about ourselves
*Darryl pointed out when we first started talking about this idea that we are in fact voyeurs in the fourth degree…Jesus and his conversation partner (1&2), John (3), us (4). This little tidbit gives us a unique perspective on all that is going on
*In regards to the style of the film, we storyboarded it as if it were one of my Office posts where I find myself people watching and speculating on who and what they’re all about. Further, I watched the entire run of Arrested Development this fall and High Fidelity the week before we shot so that genre of narration was in my head and seemed like a good fit
*We based two of the shots on the Biblical conversations (Nicodemus - Important Types; Woman at the Well - 6 Cups). We had a tough time with the John the B scenario so we scrapped it
*Nathan and I shot the film, and he edited it with Adobe Premier. It’s the first we’ve used the software - It worked well.
Big Thank Yous:
*Barry, Chris, Nate & Darryl for the first storyboard and initial brainstorm
*Chris for the voice over & Barry for the studio work
*Dave for being so gracious in facilitating the shoot at the Coffee Lodge
*The Coffee Lodge, a locally owned and operated coffee shop, which so happens to be my office, for letting us shoot in their space
*The Actors: Sarah, Rose, Murray, Dave, Nathan, Marlene
As always, if it fits, the film is yours to use, free of charge. We can even customize the last frame for you and insert your artwork/title/etc. Again, all we ask for as payment is that you return the favour and help someone else when the opportunity presents itself.
