if we could only see us now
“As we’re bombarded with the agendas and slants of dozens of different newspapers, authors, entertainers, news programs, and disingenuous film-makers it becomes increasingly difficult to cut through the rhetoric and ideologies to the core of the issues. Film and television continue to tell us that true love can be found topless and drunk in a Jacuzzi and the memory of love as selfless and virtuous fades. Mainstream music continues to say nothing and worse yet, it tells us that it’s ok to do nothing – apathy and self-indulgence are the new lifestyle and money , sex, power, fashion, and greed are the new cardinal virtues…
…So as cultural degradation continues to be branded as entertainment, as society’s lines are blurred and people become increasingly lost and alienated, there is no better time than now for [the church – a community of individuals]* that lead by example, that dare to love selflessly and virtuously, a people that beg you to explore the breadth and depth of life. There is no better time for the world to hear that there is more substance than distraction, more than this pain you might feel now, more that this love you might feel right now, and much more than just flashing lights and sound.”

*sorry for the over the top Thrice kick over the last few weeks, but i just couldn’t pass this one up. Taken from the dvd jacket of the same name as this post, the subject of the statements above was the band…but when i read it, it sounded more like the church. so i took some artistic liberty…
